Interview Evaluation: Tyler Hamilton

Part A:
1.An open-ended question:
Did You see Armstrong getting the blood transfusion?

2.A closed ended question:
What did you think in that moment?

3.A follow-up question:
You saw Lance Armstrong inject EPO?

Part B:
1.What question got the best answer from Tyler Hamilton?
Question:It was arranged by Lance Armstrong?
Answer:Correct. But, you know,  i reached out to him. I asked for this, you know. Sure, it was an illegal doping product but, he helped out a friend. So I want to make it clear that, you know, if the roles were reversed, and I had the connection I would of done the same- the same thing for lance.

2.What's a question you have from tyler Hamilton That was not asked?
If you went back in time, would you do the same thing? Would you use these illegal substances if that meant achieving your goals as a cyclist?

3.What can you aboserve about Tyler Hamilton's behavior as he answers the questions? Does he appear comfortable? How can you tell?
By Observing Tyler Hamilton's behavior we can infer that he wasen't comfortable at all. He seemed very tense, eventhough he was willing to anwser the interview's questions. Lance Armastrong was his friend and teammate for many years, it must of been really hard for him to reveal the truth.

Types of Questions

  • Closed-ended Question: A question that allows the interviwer to answer with a yes-no or one word-answer.
  • Open-ended Question: A question that forces the interviewee to answer with more than yes-no or one word answer.
  • Follow-up Question: A question that originates from listening to something the interviewee says.

Interviews: Preparing Questions and Listening

Dealing with Sources
  1. You avoid one-word answers by asking questions that start with 'why', because that forces the interviewee to think.
  2. Linda Ellerbee said what all interviews are asking is, "What is it like to be you?"
Interviews: Preparing Questions
  1. If you stick to a list of questions you are not really listening to the answers.
  2. He begins talking about people who are neophytes and then gives the example of an interviewer who begins with the question "Where where you born?", the interviewee replies that he will declare World War III, but the interviewer keeps asking question from his list instead of paying attention to what the interviewee is saying.
  3. If you are talking more than 10% of the time, you are talking to much, and you'll end up framing the story the way you want to, and talking about yourself rather than the person you are interviewing.
Interviews: Listening
  1. if you just 'shut up' and listen to what the interviewee has to say, they will come up with the deepest things if you let them fill those silences.
  2. He said it is more important to watch thier reactions to the questions, how they are acting.
